Delhi Police has removed a constable from BRICS Summit 2026 security duty and initiated departmental action after videos allegedly showing his firearms and deployment locations were widely circulated on social media.
The constable had been carrying a BRICS Summit identification card and was allegedly uploading videos linked to the event on an Instagram account for several days. Some of the videos showed the guns he was carrying and locations where he had been posted for security duty, according to the report.
Delhi Police took cognisance of the matter after the videos surfaced online. During its preliminary probe, officials found that the constable was posted in the force’s Northwest district and had been temporarily deputed for BRICS-related security arrangements.
The officer has since been detached from summit duty and sent back to his parent unit in the Northwest district. Senior police officials said he would be suspended from duty, while the department examines the alleged breach and decides the final punishment after the departmental inquiry is completed.
The constable is posted with the Bangladeshi Cell, a unit whose personnel conduct raids and collect intelligence inputs, including details about foreigners allegedly staying illegally in the city. His temporary deployment placed him at and around five-star hotels and other key locations linked to the 18th BRICS Summit 2026, where foreign delegates and dignitaries are staying.
Authorities are examining the social media posts and videos, along with the circumstances in which they were recorded and uploaded. The inquiry will also determine whether the constable’s actions violated security protocols or orders issued by senior police officials overseeing the summit.
The incident comes as Delhi remains on high alert for the summit, which is being held at Bharat Mandapam. Security agencies have established a security cordon around the venue, hotels and routes used by foreign delegates. Police personnel have been on heightened duty for the past few weeks, with instructions to maintain a low profile and avoid disclosing details about their deployments.
The circulation of the videos has raised concerns about the exposure of information related to the movement and positioning of security personnel during a high-profile international event. The report does not establish whether the posts resulted in any specific security compromise.
Delhi Police will determine the constable’s punishment after completing the departmental inquiry into the alleged violation of security protocols.
