The National Lok Adalat scheduled for September 12 in Delhi has been rescheduled to October 25 because of the BRICS summit, according to information released by the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA). The settlement forum will be held across the capital’s major district court complexes, as well as the Delhi High Court and several tribunals and consumer commissions.
The revised date means that litigants who had planned to seek settlement on September 12 will now have to attend or apply for listing on October 25. The National Lok Adalat will hear civil disputes and compoundable criminal cases that can be resolved through mutual agreement between the parties. Divorce-related matters will not fall within its scope, according to the report.
The district court venues listed for the October session include Tis Hazari, Karkardooma, Patiala House, Rohini, Saket, Dwarka and Rouse Avenue. These courts handle cases from different parts of Delhi and are among the principal judicial complexes used for civil and criminal proceedings in the capital.
The session is also scheduled to cover matters before the Delhi High Court, the Debt Recovery Tribunal, the Permanent Lok Adalat, the Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and district consumer dispute redressal commissions. The inclusion of these forums means that eligible cases will be considered across multiple parts of Delhi’s dispute-resolution system rather than only in district courts.
Parties whose cases are already pending before a court, tribunal or another relevant forum can apply to have eligible matters taken up by the National Lok Adalat. Such proceedings are intended for disputes in which both sides can reach an agreement. DSLSA had earlier announced that the September 12 National Lok Adalat would not be held as scheduled.
