Three members of a family were killed and other children injured after their car collided with a bus on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Dhunela village in Gurugram on Thursday morning, according to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR. The crash brought emergency teams, local residents and Bhondsi police to the site, while the damaged vehicles were taken into police custody for investigation.
The report said the car, travelling at high speed, hit the rear of a bus ahead of it with such force that it became lodged inside the bus. The collision severely damaged the car. The couple travelling in the vehicle and their daughter died at the spot, while other children from the family suffered serious injuries.
After receiving information about the crash, rescue personnel reached the location and, with help from local residents, worked to remove the victims from the wrecked car. The injured were taken to Sohna Civil Hospital, where they received initial treatment.
Doctors later referred the critically injured children to a higher medical centre because of the seriousness of their condition. The report did not identify the hospital to which they were transferred or provide an update on their medical condition.
The bodies were kept in the hospital mortuary, according to the report. It said Bhondsi police had also taken a young daughter who survived the crash into their care while relatives were being informed. The account refers to multiple children in the family, including children who were injured and one child who was reported safe, but it does not provide their names or ages.
The collision has again drawn attention to the risks created when high-speed expressway traffic meets emergency incidents and severe vehicle damage. However, the supplied report does not establish whether speeding, driver fatigue, visibility, road conditions or any other factor caused the crash. Police have begun examining all aspects of the incident and have taken the vehicles into custody as part of that inquiry.
The next steps are expected to include the formal identification and post-mortem procedures for the deceased, treatment of the injured children and the police investigation into how the car struck the bus near Dhunela village. No further official findings were reported in the supplied account.
