Delhi’s mobile labour service vans have begun taking worker registrations, renewals and welfare-scheme assistance closer to workplaces and residences, reducing the need for labourers to repeatedly visit government offices. The Delhi government launched four mobile Namo Shramik Seva Kendra vans under its Seva Sankalp Abhiyan on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the vehicles from the Delhi Secretariat in the presence of Labour Minister Kapil Mishra. According to the report by Jagran – New Delhi, the vans will travel across all districts of the capital to serve construction workers and other labourers.
The mobile centres will provide assistance with worker registration and renewal, information about government schemes, support related to required documents, access to digital services and guidance on obtaining various government benefits. The stated aim is to make these services available within workers’ local areas rather than requiring them to travel to distant government offices.
The initiative is particularly directed at workers who find it difficult to take time away from employment to complete administrative procedures. For daily-wage and construction workers, the requirement to visit an office during working hours can create a practical barrier to registration and renewal. The government has presented the mobile vans as a way to bring those procedures closer to the communities they are intended to serve.
Gupta said workers play an important role in Delhi’s construction and development and that government services should not remain limited to offices. The government, she said, should reach those who need assistance. Mishra described the vans as multipurpose service centres that would help workers complete registration and connect with welfare schemes.
The launch adds a mobile layer to the Delhi government’s broader plan for labour-service delivery. The government had earlier announced plans to establish 13 permanent Namo Shramik Seva Kendra centres in Delhi. Those centres are intended to provide registration, renewal, document verification, application-status support and assistance related to worker welfare schemes at a single location.
The immediate operational details available in the announcement are limited to the launch of four vans and their proposed coverage of all Delhi districts. The report does not specify the routes, operating schedules, staffing arrangements, the number of workers expected to be served or the process for tracking applications submitted through the mobile centres.
The next stage will therefore depend on how the vans are deployed across districts and how workers can access their schedules and services. The permanent centres announced earlier are also expected to provide a fixed point for registration, verification and welfare-scheme assistance as the labour department expands the programme.
