Delhi Metro services will run until midnight on October 30 across most of the network to help around 70,000 spectators travel to and from singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, while traffic restrictions will remain in force around the venue from 1pm to midnight.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said additional train trips would be operated after the concert and standby trains would be kept ready to manage any unexpected surge in passenger traffic. The extended service will apply across the network, except the Airport Express Line and Rapid Metro in Gurugram.
The timings for purchasing QR tickets through the Delhi Metro Sarthi mobile application will also be extended by an hour, the DMRC said. Additional staff, customer service personnel and customer facilitation agents will be deployed at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Metro station and major interchange stations to guide passengers and manage movement.
Security arrangements at the station will be strengthened with additional personnel, door-frame metal detectors and enhanced screening. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium station, on the Violet Line between Kashmere Gate and Raja Nahar Singh, is the closest Metro station to the concert venue.
The DMRC has advised spectators to use the Metro to reach the stadium and return home, citing the need to reduce dependence on private vehicles. Commuters travelling on the Violet Line can use Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium or Jangpura stations for Gates 13, 14 and 17. Passengers using the Yellow Line can get off at INA or Jor Bagh and use designated drop-off points for Gates 3, 6 and 8. The Kushak Nallah Bus Depot red light has also been designated as a drop-off point for passengers travelling from the Yellow Line.
The Delhi Traffic Police said restrictions would affect Bhishm Pitamah Marg, Lodhi Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg between Defence Colony and Lodhi Colony Flyover, Arch Bishop Marg, 4th Avenue Road and 5th Avenue Road. Restrictions will also apply to the Barapullah Flyover stretch between INA and Jangpura Metro Gate 2, Dayal Singh College Road and internal roads in the CGO Complex and Lodhi Colony.
At the Lodhi Road-Dayal Singh College Road intersection, vehicles will not be allowed to enter Dayal Singh College Road. Traffic on Lodhi Road will continue towards Lodhi Flyover or Aurobindo Marg. Additional diversions may be activated at two of the six identified diversion points if required.
Taxis, auto-rickshaws and app-based cabs will have to use designated pick-up and drop-off locations at Arch Bishop Marg, Lal Masjid in Pragati Vihar and the Kushak Nallah Bus Depot red light. Vehicles will not be permitted to halt or park along roadsides near the stadium.
There will be no public parking at or around the stadium. Limited parking for special invitees will be available at Sunehri Pula Bus Depot and the Dayal Singh College parking area. Emergency and medical vehicles will be given priority and kept on obstruction-free routes during the restrictions.
The traffic police has advised commuters to allow extra travel time, plan journeys in advance and follow directions from traffic personnel. Assistance is available through the Delhi Traffic Police helpline at 1095, while emergencies can be reported to 112.
