Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) VK Saxena has mandated the completion of 416 projects under the Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan by August. These projects, which collectively amount to Rs 364.38 crore, are integral to the holistic development of various villages in Delhi.
Chairing a comprehensive review meeting with key agencies including the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Irrigation and Flood Control Department (I&FC), and Public Works Department (PWD), Saxena emphasised the need for rigorous monitoring to ensure timely and quality execution of the projects.
The majority of these projects are being undertaken by the DDA, with the remaining supervised by other agencies. These initiatives, formally launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah alongside then Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Saxena on March 11, focus on vital infrastructure improvements.
During the review, Saxena directed district magistrates (DMs) to oversee the development works in their respective districts meticulously. The DMs are tasked with conducting field visits and verifying the progress and quality of the works personally. This directive underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in the implementation process.
The L-G also introduced a stringent e-monitoring system, requiring all ongoing projects to be listed on a web portal with updates provided every fortnight. Progress reports must include before and after photographs or video evidence, ensuring that no report is accepted without visual documentation. This measure is designed to foster transparency and provide a clear audit trail of the development works. The L-G was briefed that most of the projects involve the construction or renovation of community centres, village chaupals, crematoriums, panchayat ghars, and sports infrastructure. These facilities are critical to improving the quality of life in rural areas, providing essential services and community spaces for residents.
This initiative marks a significant step towards the sustainable development of Delhi’s rural areas, reflecting the administration’s commitment to uplifting the standard of living in villages. By enforcing strict deadlines and monitoring mechanisms, the Delhi government aims to ensure that the benefits of these projects are realised promptly and effectively, fostering a more inclusive growth trajectory for the region.
