The Delhi Public Works Department has begun preparations to build four new foot over bridges in Shahbad Dairy, Jeevan Park, Janakpuri and Katwaria Sarai, with the projects estimated to cost about Rs 15.53 crore and scheduled for completion within six months of construction starting.
The projects are intended to make road crossings easier for pedestrians at locations where traffic movement and high footfall make crossing difficult. The details were reported by Jagran – New Delhi based on tender information issued by the PWD.
The first foot over bridge will come up on the Badli-Bawana Road near Shahbad Dairy. The second is planned near the bus stand and Major Deepak Tyagi traffic signal in the A-2 section of Jeevan Park. The third will be built on Pankha Road near the C-1 traffic signal and Mata Chanan Devi Hospital in Janakpuri.
Escalators will be installed at these three locations to support pedestrian movement across the roads. The estimated combined cost of the three structures is Rs 11,56,48,124, according to the tender details cited in the report.
A separate tender has been issued for the fourth foot over bridge on Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg in Katwaria Sarai. This project is estimated to cost Rs 3.97 crore. Taken together, the four projects have an estimated cost of approximately Rs 15.53 crore.
The PWD has also issued tenders for other foot over bridge-related works in Delhi. On January 7, tenders were issued for completing pending civil and electrical works at locations including Chirag Delhi village in Greater Kailash, Monastery Market, Budh Vihar, Ring Road and the area near Kashmere Gate. Work on these projects is under way, according to the report.
The department issued another tender on February 19 for preparing a detailed feasibility report for foot over bridges with lifts near Shivam and Satyam Enclave and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. The feasibility study is currently under way.
Other projects listed by the PWD include a foot over bridge at Azadpur, for which a tender was issued on June 9, and renovation work at the Azadpur roundabout, for which a tender was issued on July 15. A tender was also issued on August 29 for the design and consultancy of a foot over bridge on Boulevard Road near Gates 3-4 and 5-6 of Kashmere Gate Metro station.
The latest projects show the department continuing to use grade-separated pedestrian crossings at busy road locations. The four new structures will proceed according to the tender schedule, with the stated six-month completion period beginning after construction work starts.
