Ten govinda participants were admitted to two government hospitals in Thane after sustaining injuries during Dahi Handi 2026 celebrations, while 22 injuries were reported across Mumbai, authorities said on Saturday.
The Thane Regional Disaster Management Cell said four injured participants were receiving treatment at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital. Jatin Patil, 30, sustained injuries to his waist and neck; Jatin Kesari, 31, suffered a waist injury; Nandkishor Shelar, 65, sustained a head injury; and Nikhil Yadav, 35, suffered a minor injury to his left hand.
Six other govindas were admitted to the District Government Hospital in Thane. Harsh Sharma, 21, and Ayush Gupta, 19, sustained minor back injuries. Girish Chipkar, 23, suffered minor injuries, while Omkar Shinde, 25, sustained a fracture to his right leg. Aman Yadav, 21, and Amey Naik, 23, suffered minor injuries to their right hands.
The Thane disaster management cell issued the update on Saturday afternoon as authorities continued to monitor injury reports linked to the festival celebrations.
Separately, 22 govindas were injured across Mumbai, according to a Govinda Festival Update issued by the Disaster Department at 12.30 pm. The figures were based on information available from government and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation hospitals until noon.
Of the 22 injured participants recorded in Mumbai, 21 had been discharged and one remained under treatment. Central and eastern suburban civic hospitals reported 20 injured govindas, all of whom were discharged. Eastern suburban hospitals reported one injured person who was also discharged, while western suburban hospitals reported one injured govinda who remained under treatment.
The update said no untoward incident had been reported in connection with the Mumbai celebrations. The figures remained subject to monitoring as information from hospitals was compiled during the day.
The BMC had directed its healthcare facilities across Mumbai to remain on standby for the annual festival. According to a BMC spokesperson, Additional Municipal Commissioner City Prajakta Verma Lavangare instructed major and peripheral municipal hospitals to reserve beds for govindas and provide free treatment to injured participants.
The arrangements were part of the civic administration’s annual preparations for Dahi Handi, which is widely celebrated across Mumbai and the surrounding region. The Thane and Mumbai authorities’ updates provided the latest available counts of injuries and hospital treatment as of Saturday afternoon.
