Increasing tree cover, preserving wetlands and expanding shaded public spaces can help cities remain resilient against both extreme heat and fluctuating humidity levels. Experts say integrating climate-sensitive infrastructure into future urban development will become increasingly important as weather variability intensifies across India’s coastal cities. Although no major rainfall is expected in the immediate forecast, officials continue to monitor evolving monsoon conditions over peninsular India. Any strengthening of atmospheric systems over the coming days could alter local weather patterns. For now, Chennai residents are likely to experience a brief pause from intense daytime heat, but elevated humidity serves as a reminder that urban climate resilience depends not only on lower temperatures, but also on how cities adapt to changing weather conditions throughout the year.
