The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has introduced an innovative initiative called ‘Cauvery on Wheels.’ This programme is designed to deliver Cauvery water to areas that have not yet been fully connected to the city’s supply network, as well as those households waiting for their Cauvery Stage V connections.
With a focus on transparency and efficiency, this new platform will offer a convenient way for residents to book water deliveries via tankers online. The initiative will prioritise 110 villages in Bengaluru that are still without consistent access to Cauvery water, ensuring that they receive the necessary supply. Additionally, the programme will also focus on households that have already applied for Cauvery water connections under Stage V and are in the process of having the necessary distribution infrastructure established. These areas, often grappling with unreliable or insufficient water supply, stand to benefit significantly from the timely and managed delivery of water through this new service. An offecial highlighted that the scheme would soon be inaugurated by the state’s Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister, further affirming the government’s commitment to resolving the city’s water crisis. However, the board has noted that many areas continue to report a lack of demand for such services.
In an innovative move to support the programme, BWSSB has opened the Cauvery on Wheels platform to private tanker owners. This initiative operates on the model of vehicle aggregators, allowing private operators to register their tankers and rent them to the board for water distribution. This collaboration is expected to expand the reach and capacity of the programme while providing an opportunity for private players to participate in meeting the city’s water supply needs. Tanker owners interested in joining the initiative can register their vehicles through the BWSSB website.
