Police in Buxar have busted an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit allegedly operating from a house in Pailadih village and arrested a 45-year-old man, after recovering explosive substances and other materials used in making firecrackers. The raid was conducted on Thursday in the Simri police station area following a tip-off about unauthorised production at the residence.
The arrested man was identified as Qamruddin Ansari. Police said he was taken into custody after the illegal activity was verified at the site and was later sent to judicial custody. The case brings attention to the safety risks created when explosive materials are handled inside residential premises without authorisation or documented safeguards.
A team led by Simri station house officer Jyoti Kumari searched Ansari’s residence early on Thursday. According to the police, the seizure included 4.5kg of gunpowder, 3kg of powdered coal, 2kg of soda, 500gm of sulphur and 250gm of iron powder. Other materials allegedly used in the manufacture of firecrackers were also recovered from the premises.
The police said the operation followed information about illegal firecracker production in the village. The presence of explosive substances and manufacturing inputs inside a house made the location a public-safety concern for nearby residents, although the report did not specify whether anyone was injured or whether the premises had suffered damage before the raid.
Simri SHO Jyoti Kumari said the accused was arrested after the activity was confirmed during the search. She also said police would continue taking action against such unlawful operations. The raid was conducted in the presence of Simri circle officer Bhagwati Shankar Pandey, who attended as the magistrate.
The seizure indicates that the alleged operation involved multiple materials used in firecracker production rather than the storage of finished products alone. The police report did not provide details of the unit’s duration of operation, the intended volume of production, the source of the materials or whether any licences or permissions had been issued.
Ansari’s arrest and subsequent remand to judicial custody mark the immediate legal action reported in the case. Further proceedings will determine the charges and establish the circumstances under which the materials were being stored and allegedly used at the residence. Police have said enforcement against similar unlawful operations will continue.
