A 22-year-old woman died after a speeding truck collided with her scooter near Hathijan Circle on Ahmedabad’s SP Ring Road on November 4, according to a report by Divya Bhaskar. The truck driver allegedly fled the scene after the collision, and J Division Traffic Police have registered a case and begun efforts to identify him.
The deceased, identified as Disha Bhavsar, was travelling from the DMart area of Vatva towards her in-laws’ home in Bapunagar’s Hirawadi when the accident occurred. She was riding a TVS Jupiter scooter and reached the stretch near the Bharat Petroleum petrol pump at Hathijan Circle when the truck approached from behind, the report said.
According to the complaint filed by Disha’s brother, Rishabh Bhavsar, the truck was being driven at high speed and collided with the scooter. Disha fell onto the road after the impact and sustained critical injuries. People travelling through the area and local residents reached the spot after seeing the crash and informed her family.
The injured woman was taken to a civil hospital in a 108 ambulance. Doctors examined her after she arrived at the hospital and declared her dead, the report said. Her family was informed about the accident, and the death led to mourning at her residence.
The truck driver allegedly continued driving after the collision and escaped from the location. J Division Traffic Police have registered a case against an unidentified truck driver under provisions relating to negligent driving and causing death in a road accident, based on the complaint submitted by Disha’s brother.
Investigators are collecting CCTV footage from the Bharat Petroleum petrol pump and cameras installed along the SP Ring Road near Hathijan Circle. The footage is expected to assist the police in tracing the truck and identifying its driver. The report did not state whether the vehicle or driver had been located by the time of publication.
The incident has again drawn attention to the interaction between heavy commercial vehicles and two-wheelers on Ahmedabad’s outer road network. The SP Ring Road carries a mix of trucks, private vehicles and two-wheelers, making speed control, lane discipline and enforcement important factors in preventing serious collisions. In this case, the police investigation will establish the truck’s identity and the circumstances that led to the crash.
The immediate next step is the review of CCTV footage and other evidence gathered from the accident location. Police will continue searching for the unidentified truck driver as part of the investigation based on the registered complaint.
