Bokaro police have ordered tighter security measures at banks, ATMs, LIC offices and other financial institutions after carrying out a district-wide audit of their preparedness on Monday. The inspection covered CCTV systems, alarm arrangements, security guards and other safety measures across the district.
The coordinated exercise was conducted on the direction of Bokaro Superintendent of Police Nathu Singh Meena. Sub-divisional police officers, deputy superintendents of police and officers-in-charge of police stations inspected financial establishments in their respective areas.
Police checked whether surveillance cameras and alarm systems were functional and whether security guards and other arrangements were in place. Branch and institution managers were directed to immediately correct minor shortcomings identified during the inspections.
The audit also produced specific instructions for emergency response. Managers were asked to prominently display contact numbers for the local police station, the police control room, the fire brigade and Dial 112 on the premises. The aim is to ensure that staff and visitors can quickly contact the relevant emergency service when required.
“Security of financial institutions requires constant monitoring and coordination. Managers have been asked to address gaps immediately and ensure emergency contact numbers are clearly displayed for quick assistance,” SP Meena said, according to the Times of India report.
Financial institutions were further instructed to report any suspicious person or activity to the nearest police station without delay. Police also directed managers to preserve CCTV footage for at least 15 days, allowing investigators to access recordings when examining an incident.
The measures extend beyond one-time inspections. Meena said police station in-charges had been directed to scan QR codes installed at the establishments during regular patrolling. They have also been asked to maintain close coordination with bank and financial institution managers and keep a continuous watch on security arrangements.
The audit places responsibility on both the police and institutions: establishments must maintain surveillance, alarms, guards, emergency information and recordings, while local police units are expected to include the premises in routine patrol monitoring. The report did not specify the number of institutions inspected or list any major security breach discovered during the exercise.
Police have directed managers to complete the required corrections and maintain coordination with local stations as part of ongoing security monitoring across Bokaro.
