A 20-day Bengaluru traffic diversion will begin on Basavanagar Main Road from October 10 as the Greater Bengaluru Authority takes up construction of a bridge across a canal linked to Vibhuthipura Lake, affecting bus services, school vehicles and goods carriers in eastern Bengaluru.
The diversion falls under the HAL Airport Traffic Police Station limits. Heavy goods vehicles, BMTC buses, school buses and light goods vehicles travelling from Marathahalli, HAL, Vibhuthipura and Basavanagar towards Vijnananagar, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML will be temporarily barred from using the affected route.
All categories of vehicles travelling in the opposite direction—from Vijnananagar, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML towards Vibhuthipura, Basavanagar, HAL and Marathahalli—will also face a temporary restriction on the route during the construction period.
For vehicles travelling from Marathahalli, HAL, Vibhuthipura and Basavanagar towards Vijnananagar, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML, the prescribed alternative route runs through Old Airport Main Road. Vehicles must take a right turn near the Suranjandas Road Bridge Junction and continue along Suranjandas Road to the BEML Junction.
From BEML Junction, vehicles can turn right and proceed along Malleshpalya Main Road before continuing towards Vijnananagar and Kaggadasapura. The route is intended to move restricted heavy vehicles, BMTC buses, school buses and light goods vehicles away from the construction site.
Vehicles travelling from Vijnananagar, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML towards Vibhuthipura, Basavanagar, HAL and Marathahalli must use Malleshpalya Main Road to reach BEML Junction. They must then turn left onto Suranjandas Road and continue to the Suranjandas Junction.
At Suranjandas Junction, vehicles must take a left turn and proceed along Old Airport Road before continuing towards Vibhuthipura, Basavanagar, HAL and Marathahalli. The diversion will remain in place for 20 days from October 10, according to the report published by Prajavani.
