An elderly woman was allegedly drugged with tea and robbed of gold jewellery worth ₹3 lakh at Bengaluru’s Satellite Bus Station on Mysuru Road, according to a complaint filed with Byatarayanapura police.
The complainant, identified as Channamma from Pindakuru Thimmanahalli in Doddaballapura taluk, had reached the bus station on September 25 to travel to her daughter’s home in Mysuru. After purchasing a ticket, she boarded a bus bound for Mysuru.
According to the police account reported by Prajavani, an unidentified man boarded the same bus and began speaking to Channamma in a familiar manner. He placed a bag on the seat beside her and asked her to watch it for five minutes while he went out to drink tea.
The man later returned with two cups of tea and asked Channamma to drink one. She initially refused, but he allegedly persuaded her by saying that she was like his mother. Police said she then drank the tea without suspecting him.
Channamma reportedly fell asleep shortly afterwards. The unidentified man allegedly removed 30 grams of gold jewellery from her bag and fled. She discovered that the jewellery was missing after waking up and informed her son by telephone before approaching the police station to lodge a complaint.
The reported incident highlights the risks faced by elderly passengers travelling alone through busy intercity transport hubs, where strangers can approach travellers while they wait to board buses. The available report does not state whether the police have identified or arrested the suspect.
Byatarayanapura police are investigating the complaint. Further details about the suspect, the method used to obtain the tea and any action taken to trace him were not available in the report.
