Residents of Bengaluru’s Sarjapur corridor have turned to a community-led carpooling platform to tackle daily commuting pressures, reflecting how neighbourhoods are experimenting with shared mobility as congestion and travel times rise. The initiative points to a broader urban question: whether better use of existing vehicles can ease pressure on roads while larger transport projects take years to deliver.
The platform allows residents travelling along similar routes to coordinate shared rides. Instead of adding another vehicle to already crowded roads, one car can potentially carry several commuters, reducing the number of individual trips generated by the same group of workers. The idea has particular relevance in Sarjapur, where rapid residential and commercial development has increased travel demand. Sarjapur and similar growth corridors need reliable public transport, safe pedestrian networks and integrated land-use planning so that housing and employment do not remain heavily dependent on private vehicles. The residents’ initiative offers an immediate, community-driven response to that pressure.
