A private-company employee was allegedly kidnapped and robbed of ₹3.70 lakh after meeting a woman he had become acquainted with on a dating app near Electronic City, according to a report citing Hebbagodi police. A case has been registered at Hebbagodi police station, and investigators are attempting to identify the woman and other alleged suspects.
According to the police account reported by Vijay Karnataka, the complainant, who lives in Chandapura, was asked to meet the woman at a pub on Hulimangala Main Road near Electronic City on the night of August 19. He reportedly reached the pub at about 9.45pm. The woman allegedly arrived in a white car and told him they should first get fuel before leaving the area.
The woman is alleged to have driven the complainant to an isolated location. Police said she got out of the vehicle on the pretext of using a toilet. Four unidentified men then allegedly approached the complainant, threatened him and forced him into the same car. He was later moved to another vehicle and driven around different parts of the city, according to the report.
The alleged attackers are accused of taking ₹7,000 in cash, along with the complainant’s debit and credit cards. Police said the men obtained his ATM PIN and took him to an ATM, where ₹45,000 was withdrawn. They also allegedly used his credit card to purchase fuel for the vehicle.
The complainant further alleged that the suspects changed the password linked to his credit card and transferred ₹3.20 lakh to another account. The total loss reported in the complaint was ₹3.70 lakh. Police said the group later left him on a road behind Electronic City Metro station on the morning of August 20 and fled.
The complainant returned home and discussed the incident with family members before approaching the police. Hebbagodi police have registered a case involving allegations of kidnapping and extortion. Investigators are examining the woman’s mobile-phone number and reviewing CCTV footage from the ATM and fuel stations to gather information about the suspects, police said.
