Faridabad Police have registered an FIR against unidentified people after a 26-year-old private-school sports teacher alleged that an obscene image created by digitally editing her photograph was circulated through Instagram accounts. Police said investigators are examining the social-media handles and available digital evidence to identify the people who created and distributed the image.
The complaint described a series of contacts and online posts involving the teacher. According to the report, she received a message from a fake Instagram account on August 19. Soon afterwards, she received messages and calls on WhatsApp from a foreign number. The caller allegedly sent her a photograph of a woman and asked her to identify the person. The teacher found the call suspicious and blocked the number.
The complainant later discussed the incident with a former classmate. During that conversation, the name of a man allegedly came up. The complaint alleges that the person took women’s photographs from Instagram, edited them into obscene images and circulated them to others. The teacher and her former classmate then spoke to the man through a conference call, during which he allegedly behaved abusively, according to the report.
The complaint also referred to an Instagram request received on September 12. When the teacher opened the profile, she allegedly found posts containing obscene images of several women. One of the images had been edited to depict her as naked. The posts reportedly carried the words “paid girl” along with her mobile number and two other numbers.
The teacher reported the account, after which it was removed. The complaint alleged that similar images were circulated again on September 13 and September 17 through different accounts. The repeated use of new accounts has made the identification of the alleged operators a central part of the police investigation.
The FIR was registered on Monday at Faridabad’s Central Cyber Police Station against unknown accused persons. Faridabad Police spokesperson said the department was trying to identify the people responsible for creating the images and operating the fake accounts using the relevant Instagram handles and available digital evidence. The spokesperson said the accused would be arrested soon.
The case illustrates how image-editing tools and social-media platforms can be used to target individuals beyond the original point of contact. The report does not establish whether the alleged images were created using a specific artificial-intelligence application. Police have described the images as having been made using AI and digital editing, while the investigation into the accounts, phone numbers and digital material remains ongoing. The next steps will depend on tracing the accounts and examining the evidence collected by the cyber police station.
