Bengaluru has added another layer to its growing artificial intelligence ecosystem with the launch of an AI innovation centre at CHRIST University. The facility is intended to connect students, researchers and faculty with emerging AI technologies while creating opportunities for applied research, industry collaboration and skills development. Its significance extends beyond campus infrastructure as Bengaluru seeks to strengthen its position as a major technology and research hub.
The centre has been established jointly by CHRIST University and IBM, with a focus on research, education, experimentation and talent development. Students, faculty members, researchers and doctoral scholars will be able to work with technologies spanning generative AI, large language models, retrieval-augmented generation and intelligent automation. The initiative also introduces a stronger industry-academia link. IBM’s expert teams will provide practical training for faculty, postgraduate students and PhD scholars, while participants will have access to learning and certification programmes. The centre is also expected to support internships, hackathons, research projects and innovation challenges. For Bengaluru, the development matters because the city’s technology economy increasingly depends on access to specialised talent rather than simply expanding the number of software professionals. AI development requires expertise across computer science, mathematics, engineering, data science and increasingly domain-specific disciplines. Universities can play an important role in closing that skills gap.
