Belagavi Winter Session May Start on December 2 Instead of November 30

Karnataka’s winter legislature session at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi may begin on December 2 instead of November 30, with the state government considering a shorter sitting that would run until December 11, according to a report by Prajavani. The revised schedule is expected to be considered at the Cabinet meeting on November 5.

The government had earlier decided to hold the session from November 30 to December 11 for a total of 10 sitting days. The Parliamentary Affairs Department subsequently sent the file to the Governor for approval of the schedule.

According to the report, the department withdrew the file following instructions from the government. It has now forwarded a revised proposal to Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, suggesting that the session begin on December 2.

The change would alter both the opening date and the proposed number of sitting days at the Belagavi legislature complex. Government sources cited by Prajavani said discussions were under way to hold the session for eight days between December 2 and December 11.

The Suvarna Vidhana Soudha hosts Karnataka’s legislature during the winter session, taking legislative proceedings outside Bengaluru and placing Belagavi at the centre of the state’s administrative and political calendar during the period. Any change in the schedule will affect the legislative timetable, departmental preparation and arrangements connected with the session.

The reported proposal has not yet become the final schedule. The file’s movement from the Parliamentary Affairs Department to the Governor, its withdrawal and subsequent resubmission to the Chief Secretary indicate that the dates remain under consideration within the government’s approval process.

The Cabinet is expected to take the final decision at its meeting on November 5. The report does not specify whether the revised proposal will receive the Governor’s approval or whether further changes to the dates and number of sitting days will be made.
