Tushar Giri Nath, Chief Civic Commissioner of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has announced a robust strategy to curb the spread of the disease through a meticulous house-to-house survey and awareness initiative. Returning to his duties after recovering from dengue himself, Chief Commissioner Nath convened a review meeting to assess the situation and underscored the urgency of raising public awareness through targeted interventions.
Under the newly launched initiative, BBMP plans to create teams comprising health inspectors, Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), auxiliary nurse midwives, and link workers. These teams will conduct thorough surveys across identified zones, focusing on identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, and educating residents on preventive measures. Additionally, households where members exhibit fever symptoms will be encouraged to visit primary health centres for testing.
To ensure comprehensive coverage, BBMP aims to visit approximately 14 lakh households every 15 days, prioritizing poorer, densely populated, and low-lying areas known to be at higher risk. The initiative will be bolstered by the participation of nursing college students and National Service Scheme volunteers, enhancing the outreach of the door-to-door campaign.
Chief Commissioner Nath highlighted the critical need to eradicate stagnant water sources, which serve as breeding sites for dengue-carrying mosquitoes. He emphasized the deployment of NS1 test kits at primary health centres to expedite the diagnosis of suspected cases. Confirmed cases will undergo further laboratory testing to facilitate prompt treatment and containment efforts. Special attention is being directed towards zones with the highest reported cases, including Mahadevapura, South, and East zones. Authorities have been instructed to implement targeted measures in these areas to mitigate the spread of the disease effectively.

By leveraging community engagement and enhanced diagnostic capabilities, the initiative aims to curb transmission and safeguard the well-being of residents across the city.
