BDA to Use Drone Imagery Data for RMP 2041

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has come forward with a proposal to work on providing drone imagery data for preparation of the base map, existing land usage and others. In addition, the Authority will rely on drone mapping data instead of satellite imagery to prepare the Revised Master Plan (RMP) 2041.

A decision was taken in this regard at the state government level. As a result, the Authority has decided to rope in the Karnataka State Remote Sensing Application Center to prepare the data. Preparing the data would take at least six to eight months.

As per information shared by BDA in its draft RMP for 2031, the first Master Plan for Bengaluru was approved in 1984. The first revision of the master plan was the Revised Master Plan 1995, followed by the Revised Master Plan 2007 and the Revised Master Plan 2015. The Revised Master Plan for Bengaluru-2031 was the fourth revision, which the state government later withdrew.

Citizen activists argue that the absence of a Master Plan is adversely impacting the city, which is growing exponentially without focusing on liveability, with no clear plans on shifting to a mass transit system, sustainable transport system or increasing green cover.
