Ayushman Bharat Delhi Crosses 9 Lakh Registrations, CM Says

Ayushman Bharat Delhi registrations have crossed nine lakh, with Rs 118 crore paid against around 85,000 claims, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Wednesday, outlining the scale of health-cover enrolment and several Centre-backed development projects in the capital.

Gupta said nearly three lakh senior citizens had enrolled under the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana, which provides health cover to people aged 70 and above irrespective of income. She added that the Delhi government had enhanced the Centre’s Rs 5-lakh health cover with an additional Rs 5 lakh, taking the total coverage to Rs 10 lakh per person.

The chief minister said Delhi had established around 415 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and was targeting 1,100 such facilities. Jan Aushadhi medicines, she said, were available at prices nearly 90% lower than market rates. Around 73 lakh families receive free rations every month, while nearly three lakh gas connections have been provided under the Ujjwala scheme, according to her statement.

Gupta also cited infrastructure projects completed, underway or at the planning stage over the past 12 years, with a combined value of more than Rs 1.2 lakh crore. The projects listed by her included the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor, the Dhaula Kuan signal-free corridor, the Mahipalpur underpass and major expressways connecting Delhi with other regions.

Delhi-NCR’s metro network serves around 85 lakh passengers daily, Gupta said. Investment in Delhi Metro projects from Phase I to Phase V stands at Rs 1.2 lakh crore, including a Delhi government contribution of Rs 27,000 crore. Around 5,300 electric buses are operating in the capital, she added.

The chief minister said the Centre had provided Rs 1,200 crore under the Swachh Bharat Mission, Rs 830 crore under AMRUT and Rs 1,650 crore under the SASCI scheme, supporting nearly 30 projects. She linked the funding to work across sanitation, urban infrastructure and city development, but did not provide a project-wise breakup in the statement.

Housing and land regularisation were also part of the development account. Gupta cited the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the ‘Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makan’ initiative for eligible families. She said PM-UDAY had regularised 1,511 unauthorised colonies, potentially benefiting around 45 lakh people.

Gupta’s remarks came after the Delhi cabinet unanimously passed a resolution honouring Prime Minister Narendra Modi for completing 25 years of public service and thanking him for supporting the capital’s development. In a post on X, she credited the Centre’s financial, technical and administrative assistance for progress in housing, roads, education, health, connectivity, Yamuna cleaning and waste management. The government did not provide a separate implementation timeline for the proposed expansion of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in the statement.
