AIMSS Chamiana Gets 50 Security Staff, 150 Support Workers

The Himachal Pradesh government has approved new and redistributed posts for the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties (AIMSS) at Chamiana in Shimla, adding specialist faculty, residents, paramedical personnel and essential support staff to strengthen the institute’s clinical and educational operations.

The approval includes the creation of new posts and the redistribution of sanctioned positions from Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, and other departments of AIMSS. The stated objective is to ensure adequate staffing across departments and rationalise manpower for super-specialty healthcare services.

The approved medical positions cover Critical Care Medicine, Anaesthesia, Surgical Gastroenterology and Radiology. They include professors, associate professors, assistant professors and senior residents. The staffing plan is intended to support both patient care and medical education at the Shimla-based institute.

The government has also approved one dietitian, two Central Sterile Supply Department supervisors and one chief pharmacist. In addition, the institute will be permitted to hire 50 security personnel, 50 sanitary workers and 50 ward attendants.

The support package includes five laboratory technicians each for pathology, biochemistry, microbiology and the blood bank. Four Arogya Mitras, two physiotherapists, three drivers and one junior office assistant specialising in information technology will also be engaged.

The decision extends beyond staffing. The government has approved the hiring of two buses for AIMSS Chamiana, adding transport support to the institute’s operational requirements. The announcement did not specify the buses’ routes, the hiring timeline or the financial outlay involved.

AIMSS Chamiana is part of Himachal Pradesh’s public healthcare infrastructure in Shimla, where the availability of specialist doctors, diagnostic personnel, ward attendants, sanitation workers and transport services affects the functioning of a tertiary-care facility. The approved positions cover clinical, technical, administrative, sanitation, security and mobility-related needs within the institution.

The redistribution of existing sanctioned posts from IGMC and other AIMSS departments indicates that the staffing decision combines fresh recruitment with an internal reallocation of government-approved manpower. The press statement did not provide a department-wise breakdown of the posts being shifted or the number of positions newly created.

The government’s approval now provides the administrative basis for the institute to engage the approved personnel and arrange the two buses. Further details on recruitment, deployment and implementation timelines were not included in the announcement.
