Ahmedabad-Palanpur train services will be disrupted between October 26 and 28 as the Western Railway’s Ahmedabad division carries out girder-launching work for a road overbridge near Kalol station. The railway administration has announced partial and complete cancellations during a special traffic block for the infrastructure work.
The work is being undertaken at railway crossing number 232 near Kalol station on the Ahmedabad–Palanpur rail section. According to the report, the road overbridge is being built to improve passenger safety and facilitate smoother road traffic at the crossing.
The engineering department is scheduled to begin launching girders for the bridge, a complex operation that requires a dedicated block on the rail route. As a result, some passenger and express services passing through the section will either be partially cancelled or fully withdrawn on specified dates.
Train number 20959/20960 Valsad–Vadnagar–Valsad Express will be partially cancelled on October 27 between Gandhinagar Capital and Vadnagar. The service will operate only between Valsad and Gandhinagar Capital on that day, according to the service changes reported for the block period.
Several local services will be fully cancelled on October 27. These include train number 69249 Sabarmati–Katosan Road MEMU and train number 69250 Katosan Road–Sabarmati MEMU. Train number 69207 Gandhinagar Capital–Vadtal MEMU will also remain cancelled on October 27.
The return service, train number 69208 Vadtal–Gandhinagar Capital MEMU, will be cancelled on October 27 and October 28. In addition, train numbers 79434/79435 Patan–Sabarmati–Patan DEMU will not operate on October 27.
The changes affect commuters using the Kalol, Gandhinagar Capital, Vadnagar, Vadtal, Patan and Sabarmati connections, as well as passengers travelling on the wider Ahmedabad–Palanpur corridor. The cancellations are linked specifically to the railway block required for girder launching and are separate from any routine timetable changes.
The project highlights the operational challenge of executing major road and rail infrastructure work on an active railway corridor. Girder launching requires railway authorities to restrict or suspend train movement around the work site to maintain safety while bridge components are installed over the crossing.
The Western Railway’s Ahmedabad division has scheduled the service restrictions around the construction activity. Passengers travelling on the affected trains on October 27 and October 28 will need to account for the cancellations and the partial termination of the Valsad–Vadnagar Express at Gandhinagar Capital during the work period.
