Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has begun the process of widening the road from Sarangpur Circle to the DCP Zone-3 office from 18 metres to 30 metres, with around 17 properties expected to fall within the proposed road line linked to the redevelopment of Kalupur railway station.
The civic body has published a public notice under Section 210 of the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act, inviting objections and suggestions on the proposed road line. The plan involves incorporating approximately 2,965 square metres of land into the road corridor. Further action will be taken after the statutory process is completed.
The road connects Sarangpur Circle with the DCP Zone-3 office and is being widened to improve movement towards and away from Ahmedabad’s Kalupur railway station. The existing 18-metre road is proposed to become 30 metres wide, increasing the available carriageway space around one of the city’s key railway access points.
The move is linked to the redevelopment of Kalupur railway station by the Rail Land Development Authority. According to the report, the redeveloped station is expected to handle approximately 3.12 lakh passenger movements a day after modern facilities are introduced. The municipal road plan is intended to address the anticipated increase in passenger-related traffic and improve access to the station.
The proposed road line will affect around 17 properties. The report states that the corporation will undertake the required legal process concerning these properties before the land is incorporated into the road. The public notice gives affected parties and other members of the public an opportunity to submit objections and suggestions before the proposal advances.
The corporation has also started a separate process involving shops on the road leading from Sarangpur Circle towards Roxy Cinema. These shops were allotted by the civic body on a rental or permit basis. Notices have reportedly been issued to the concerned shopkeepers asking them to vacate the premises and return the spaces to the corporation.
The road-widening proposal places access infrastructure at the centre of the station redevelopment process. While the station project is being planned to accommodate higher passenger volumes, the municipal action concerns the surrounding road network and the properties and commercial spaces located along the proposed alignment.
The next formal step is the completion of the period for objections and suggestions under the public notice. The corporation will then proceed with further action on the proposed road line and the properties affected by the widening plan.
