A 24-year-old motorcyclist died during treatment after an unidentified truck allegedly hit his bike near Apollo International School in Ahmedabad’s Narol area, while his family told police that an ambulance delay forced them to move him in an autorickshaw before he was transferred to a 108 emergency vehicle.
The crash took place on the evening of October 21 at the crossroads near the school. Jayeshkumar Makwana was returning from work on his motorcycle when the truck struck him. He suffered serious injuries to his head, forehead and left arm and was rendered unconscious, according to the complaint filed by his elder brother, Divyakant Makwana, with the K Division Traffic Police Station.
The truck driver allegedly fled the scene with the vehicle after the collision. Police have registered a case against an unidentified driver and begun an investigation. The report does not identify the truck or confirm whether the driver has been located.
Passers-by used Jayeshkumar’s mobile phone to contact his family after the crash. His relatives reached the site and arranged for him to be taken first to LG Hospital and later to SVP Hospital for further treatment. He remained under treatment for four days before the attending doctor declared him dead on October 25.
The family’s complaint also raises a question about the emergency response at the crash site. It states that local people informed the 108 ambulance service immediately after the accident, but the ambulance did not arrive promptly. The family therefore placed the injured man in an autorickshaw and began travelling towards the hospital. They later encountered a 108 ambulance near Narol Circle and shifted him into the emergency vehicle before he was taken to LG Hospital.
The account in the complaint describes the ambulance delay as part of the sequence that followed the crash; the supplied report does not provide an official response from the 108 service, the health department or the hospitals about the response time. It also does not establish the cause of the alleged delay.
The case brings together two public-safety concerns on a busy urban corridor: the risk posed by heavy vehicles to two-wheeler users and the availability of timely emergency medical transport after a collision. The police investigation will determine how the crash occurred and identify the truck driver. Authorities have not announced any further action or timeline beyond the ongoing inquiry.
