Ahmedabad: Mobile network performance along the Ahmedabad–Gandhidham railway corridor has come under fresh assessment, offering new insights into the quality of digital connectivity experienced by rail passengers. The independent review highlights the growing importance of reliable telecom infrastructure as transport corridors increasingly support business travel, freight movement and digitally connected public services across Gujarat.
The evaluation covered nearly 300 kilometres of the railway route linking Ahmedabad with Gandhidham through key junctions including Viramgam, Dhrangadhra, Halvad, Samakhiali and Bhachau. The exercise measured the on-ground performance of voice and mobile data services provided by major telecom operators, reflecting actual user experience rather than laboratory-based network benchmarks. The Ahmedabad Rail Route Mobile Networks assessment examined multiple quality indicators, including signal availability, call setup success, dropped calls, download and upload speeds, latency and voice quality. Such independent evaluations help identify coverage gaps and network inconsistencies across busy transport corridors where uninterrupted connectivity has become essential for passengers, businesses and emergency communication. The findings indicate noticeable differences in network performance among service providers across the route. While some operators recorded minimal call drops and stronger mobile data speeds, others experienced wider coverage gaps and comparatively lower network performance in certain sections. These variations underline the need for continuous investment in telecom infrastructure, particularly in semi-urban and rural stretches where network reliability can fluctuate.
Urban mobility experts note that digital connectivity is increasingly regarded as a critical component of modern transport infrastructure. Passengers now depend on stable mobile networks for digital ticketing, navigation, financial transactions, remote work and access to emergency services during travel.
