Ahmedabad: Housing projects across Gujarat could receive additional time to complete construction after the Union government advised state real estate regulators to invoke force majeure provisions for developments affected by disruptions linked to the conflict in West Asia. If implemented by Gujarat’s regulator, the move would provide a four-month extension for eligible projects, helping address delays that have rippled through the construction ecosystem while also offering greater certainty for homebuyers awaiting possession.
The advisory from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs recommends that state Real Estate Regulatory Authorities (RERAs) extend registration and completion timelines for projects whose scheduled completion dates fall on or after late February this year. The recommendation follows the Ministry of Finance’s recognition of the ongoing geopolitical conflict as a force majeure event for regulatory purposes, allowing project delays arising from exceptional circumstances to be treated differently from routine construction setbacks.
