Bengaluru is set to experience a wet spell starting Thursday, with moderate to heavy rainfall predicted in several regions of Karnataka. Residents can expect cloudy skies throughout the day, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 21°C to a maximum of 26°C. The city witnessed sunrise at 6:09 AM and is expected to see sunset by 6:15 PM.
The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has issued a seven-day forecast indicating scattered to widespread moderate rain, with isolated heavy showers accompanied by thundershowers and strong winds across the state from September 26 to 28. Rain activity is expected to taper off in the subsequent days. Humidity levels in the city are forecasted at 88 percent, contributing to a cooler and more comfortable climate. Air quality is expected to remain good, with an AQI of 30 throughout the day, offering relief to citizens in urban areas often affected by pollution.
Officials have advised residents to exercise caution as sudden rainfall may lead to minor disruptions, including temporary power outages, minor traffic congestion, and the possibility of weak tree branches falling in certain areas. The authorities recommend staying indoors when possible and securing doors and windows to avoid water-related hazards. The Southwest Monsoon, a seasonal wind system bringing heavy rainfall to South Asia, continues to influence weather patterns in Karnataka. Characterised by a reversal of wind directions, the monsoon transports moisture from the sea to land, ensuring rainfall across the region during June to September. Bengaluru, being at the tail end of the monsoon belt, experiences intermittent rain coupled with strong winds, making it essential for residents and commuters to stay informed and prepared.
The monsoon rainfall, while providing respite from high temperatures, also underscores the need for sustainable urban planning. City officials are expected to monitor drainage systems, traffic routes, and electricity supply infrastructure to mitigate disruptions. Authorities have emphasised eco-friendly and equitable strategies, urging citizens to support sustainable practices such as responsible water management, reduced waste, and caution during adverse weather. Experts highlight that Bengaluru’s urban ecosystem, including lakes, green cover, and drainage channels, plays a critical role in moderating local weather conditions. Proper maintenance and public awareness campaigns are considered vital in reducing the impact of heavy rainfall on daily life.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates through official channels and adhere to safety advisories issued by the KSNDMC and city authorities. While the rainfall may cause temporary inconveniences, it is also a reminder of the vital role of natural weather cycles in supporting the city’s environment and urban sustainability goals.
