Air India has temporarily suspended its Goa (Mopa)–London (Gatwick) direct route until July 15, 2025, citing operational adjustments across its international fleet. The move is part of a larger restructuring affecting Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft. The airline confirmed that revised schedules are now available on its website, app, and customer support channels.
The direct service between Mopa airport in North Goa and London’s Gatwick airport (AI145/146), which operated three times weekly, has been halted temporarily. Air India cited ongoing international network recalibration involving its wide-body aircraft as the primary reason for the disruption. This comes amid broader efforts to streamline its fleet and international service performance.
Aviation experts believe this pause is tied to the grounding and reallocation of some Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft as part of maintenance, retrofitting, or operational strategy updates. Similar temporary suspensions have been seen on other long-haul routes across Europe, North America, and Asia. The airline is gradually updating all impacted routes on digital platforms.
Air India, now part of the Tata Group’s aviation consolidation strategy, is under pressure to optimise its global footprint and fleet utilisation. With growing competition from other international carriers operating out of India, the airline appears to be focusing on prioritised, high-yield routes while temporarily trimming less profitable or under-capacity sectors like Mopa–London.
Passengers booked on the route during the suspension period are advised to check with Air India’s contact centre or digital platforms for rebooking, refunds, or alternate travel arrangements. The airline has assured full customer assistance during this service pause, though it has not clarified if additional domestic connections or alternate international hubs will be offered.
The temporary suspension of Air India’s Mopa–London service reflects broader adjustments in the airline’s global operations amid fleet realignments. While the pause may impact tourist and business connectivity between Goa and the UK, Air India has promised prompt schedule updates and passenger support. With services expected to resume by July 15.
