There are no official reports or statements from the Government of India or the relevant ministries regarding any such scheme. The Ministry of Railways has explicitly stated that there are no plans to reinstate senior citizen concessions due to financial constraints. Similarly, Air India does not offer a fixed percentage concession for senior citizens on its flights. Currently, Air India provides discounts for senior citizens, but these vary based on the route and are subject to change from time to time.
While the central government has not introduced any free travel schemes for senior citizens, some state governments have implemented their own concessions. For instance, the Odisha government has approved the Mukhyamantri Bus Seva (MBS), which provides a 50% concession on fares for senior citizens on both AC and non-AC buses. Additionally, Mumbai Metro offers a 25% concession for senior citizens aged above 65 years on Metro Lines 2A and 7 via Mumbai One passes. Cochin Metro provides a 50% concession fare discount for senior citizens aged above 75 years.
