Schaeffler India Invests Rs 1700 Crore to Expand Domestic Manufacturing, Opens New Tamil Nadu Plant

Automotive and industrial component manufacturer Schaeffler India has invested ₹1,700 crore over the past three years to expand its manufacturing and technological capabilities in the country.

The company’s latest move includes the inauguration of a new manufacturing facility in Shoolagiri, Tamil Nadu, focused on powertrain and chassis components for both conventional and electric vehicles. This investment exceeds its initial ₹1,500 crore commitment and aligns with the company’s broader strategy to meet growing domestic demand for advanced mobility solutions. The facility will act as a hub for producing and scaling technologies such as planetary gear systems, hybrid transmission components, and next-generation powertrain solutions, with a strong emphasis on electrification. “India is a key market for Schaeffler. The new facility supports our global manufacturing footprint and localisation strategy, helping us align with India’s evolving automotive landscape,” said Matthias Zink, CEO of Powertrain and Chassis at Schaeffler AG.

The Tamil Nadu plant joins Schaeffler India’s existing facilities in Pune, Vadodara (two plants), and Hosur, along with three research and development centres. The expanded infrastructure supports not only auto components but also large and medium-sized industrial bearings. Managing Director and CEO Harsha Kadam affirmed that the company is future-ready. “With the expansion of our production facilities, we are well-positioned to serve both current and future demands as India transitions towards e-mobility,” he said. As part of its digital expansion, Schaeffler India also acquired Koovers, a B2B e-commerce platform, in 2023 to strengthen its presence in the digital automotive aftermarket.

The company reiterated its commitment to the Make in India initiative and sustainable practices, positioning India as a strategic growth driver within the Schaeffler Group’s global roadmap.
