More than 50 families in ICRISAT Enclave in East Anandbagh, Malkajgiri, have urged the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation to take immediate action against a persistent mosquito menace linked to uncleared stormwater drains and stagnant water bodies.
Residents said mosquitoes have been entering homes in thick swarms every evening for the past few months, forcing families to shut windows and doors before sunset. They have sought urgent measures to reduce the risk of vector-borne diseases, including dengue, malaria and chikungunya.
According to a representation submitted to civic authorities on Friday, residents asked the municipal corporation to direct its assistant medical officer of health and entomology wing to inspect the locality, identify stagnant water bodies and blocked drains, and begin anti-larval treatment, chemical spraying and weekly evening fogging.
Satish Kumar, a resident of ICRISAT Enclave, said the mosquito problem had made daily life difficult for residents. He alleged that the surrounding drains and water bodies had not been adequately addressed despite repeated representations to Malkajgiri civic authorities.
Residents said the issue had continued for more than a decade even as the locality underwent rapid development. The uncleared drains and stagnant water, they said, were creating conditions for mosquito breeding within and around the enclave.
The complaint has also raised concerns about the exposure of children and senior citizens to mosquito-borne illnesses. Residents said they had repeatedly alerted officials to the potential health risk but had not seen remedial work at the scale required to address the problem.
Their requested measures include inspection of the locality by the health and entomology teams, identification of breeding sites, anti-larval treatment and chemical spraying. They have also sought regular evening fogging, with weekly operations proposed as a way to control the mosquito population and reduce the risk of an outbreak.
The representation places responsibility for the immediate response with the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation and its public-health machinery. The next step sought by residents is an on-ground inspection followed by treatment of stagnant water bodies and action on blocked stormwater drains.
