Buxar Road Crash Kills Worker as Driver Flees, CCTV Probe Begins

A 65-year-old daily-wage worker died after being hit by a speeding car while crossing a road in Buxar district’s Vasudeva police station area on Wednesday afternoon, with police examining CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and its driver.

The deceased, Subhash Rai, was from Mukund Dera village. He suffered severe head injuries in the crash, after which local residents took him to the Community Health Centre in Nawanagar.

Doctors provided initial treatment before referring Rai to Sadar Hospital in Buxar because of the seriousness of his condition. He died during treatment, according to the report.

The car driver fled the scene after the collision. Rai’s family members said he was the sole breadwinner and worked as a daily-wage labourer. His death has left the family facing financial hardship.

Anil Kumar Paswan, station house officer of Vasudeva police station, said police had received information about the accident and started an investigation. “CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to identify the offending vehicle. Further legal action will be taken once the vehicle and its driver are traced,” Paswan said.

The case highlights the immediate risks faced by pedestrians crossing roads in areas where vehicle speeds, road design and access to safe crossing facilities can determine the severity of a crash. The supplied report does not establish whether the stretch had marked crossings, traffic-calming measures or other pedestrian-safety infrastructure.

Police said further legal action would follow after the vehicle and its driver are traced through the CCTV investigation.
