Gurugram Flyover Gets Tender: 3 Lanes to Link Ambience Mall and Cyber City

A new three-lane Gurugram flyover will connect Ambience Mall on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway with DLF Cyber City, while an underpass will link the DLF Molsari Avenue Road area towards Delhi. The two projects are expected to cost around Rs 325 crore and the flyover is scheduled to be completed within 18 months, according to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR.

The projects have received approvals from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), after which a construction company was awarded the tender, the report said, citing an official associated with the project. The contractor is currently preparing a traffic management plan for the construction period.

The traffic plan will have to be approved by the traffic police. The final diversions are expected to be prepared within a month, after which construction of the flyover and underpass will begin. Officials are planning the diversions before work starts because the project will be built along a heavily used section of the highway connecting Delhi, Gurugram’s commercial districts and routes towards Jaipur.

The flyover is intended to separate traffic turning from the Delhi-Jaipur Highway towards DLF Cyber City from vehicles continuing along the highway. An NHAI survey conducted last year found that 70% of the vehicles travelling from Delhi towards Jaipur turn towards DLF Cyber City at Ambience Mall. The report said the survey covered one lakh vehicles.

The proposed connection will also include links to the DLF Mall of India, which is being developed between Ambience Mall and DLF Cyber City. According to the official cited in the report, the mall will be connected through a tunnel to the underpass emerging from Molsari Avenue Road. The underpass will also connect to the DLF Downtown building. These links are intended to allow vehicles travelling towards Delhi from the commercial developments to use the underpass instead of adding to surface-level congestion.

The project is part of a wider effort to redistribute traffic around the Delhi-Gurugram border and the Cyber City-Industry area. The report said a flyover between Mahipalpur and Ambience Mall is also being prepared by NHAI. Once that project is completed, vehicles arriving from the Dwarka Expressway tunnel and Mahipalpur towards DLF Cyber City, Ambience Mall and Udyog Vihar could use the elevated route.

The planned infrastructure will therefore involve more than one junction-level intervention. The Ambience Mall-Cyber City flyover is focused on a major turning movement identified in the NHAI survey, while the underpass is intended to provide access to adjoining commercial developments and traffic moving towards Delhi. The separate Mahipalpur-Ambience Mall flyover is expected to reduce pressure on the highway before vehicles reach the congestion-prone junction.

The immediate milestone is the approval of the traffic diversion plan. Construction is expected to start after the plan is finalised and cleared by the traffic police. The flyover’s stated construction timeline is 18 months, while the report did not provide a separate completion schedule for the underpass or the proposed Mahipalpur-Ambience Mall flyover.
