The Maharashtra State Intelligence Department has ordered the withdrawal of Y Plus security provided to Pune-based entrepreneur Rana Suryavanshi, replacing it with protection from one armed police constable, according to an order reported by Lokmat-Pune. The decision follows a police review after Suryavanshi was attacked in Baramati on October 18.
The order was issued by the Special Inspector General of the State Intelligence Department. Suryavanshi, who lives in the Magarpatta City area of Hadapsar, had been given the special security arrangement on February 17, 2026. The protection was sanctioned against the backdrop of earlier attacks, including an assault on him in Akkalkot in Solapur district in September 2025.
According to the report, attackers arriving on a motorcycle assaulted Suryavanshi with a koyta in the Gojubavi area of Baramati in the evening of October 18. The Pune Rural Police began investigating the case and detained two people, including a minor. Investigators examined closed-circuit television footage from the scene as part of the inquiry.
The footage also showed people who were accompanying Suryavanshi at the time of the attack, the report said. Three of his associates subsequently went missing and have not yet been traced. The circumstances surrounding their absence are part of the continuing police investigation. The report does not state that the associates have been formally accused in the assault.
Maharashtra Director General of Police Sadanand Date reviewed the investigation. During the review, authorities found that police personnel from districts other than Pune had been deployed as part of Suryavanshi’s security arrangement, apart from personnel from the Pune City Police. The deployment and the circumstances of the attack have prompted a further administrative inquiry.
The inquiry has been assigned to Additional Director General of Police Nikhil Gupta, who handles law and order. The review is expected to examine the security arrangement, the deployment of personnel and the events surrounding the Baramati attack, according to the report.
Suryavanshi operates a shipping company and has business interests in Gadchiroli, the report said. His residence in Magarpatta City places the security decision within Pune’s wider urban policing system, where personnel deployment must be coordinated between city, rural and other district police units. The reported change means that the earlier multi-person special arrangement will no longer be in place, while one armed police officer will continue to provide protection.
The revised arrangement was ordered by Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Prashant Amrutkar of the Pune Police special branch. The report did not provide details of the order’s duration or indicate whether the protection level could be reviewed again after the ongoing inquiry.
