A complaint over alleged insects found in food served at the Nalanda Living GN hostel mess in Knowledge Park-1, Greater Noida, has prompted the Food Safety Department to begin an inquiry. Students shared a video of the food and questioned the mess’s hygiene and quality standards.
The students claim that insects were found in food served at the hostel. Following the incident, they raised concerns about cleanliness in the mess and demanded immediate improvements in the system. The allegation has placed attention on food arrangements in privately operated student accommodation, where residents often depend on the in-house mess for daily meals.
According to the report, students said they pay a substantial monthly amount for hostel accommodation and food but were not receiving meals that met expected standards of cleanliness and quality. They said the alleged incident had increased concerns about the possible health impact of poor-quality food and its effect on their studies.
After the alleged discovery, students recorded a video of the food and shared it on social media. They also submitted their complaints to the hostel management. The video was used by the students to question the quality of food being served and the cleanliness arrangements inside the mess.
The students have asked the hostel management to introduce regular checks of the mess and the meals prepared there. They said routine monitoring was necessary to maintain food quality and hygiene. They also called for concrete steps to ensure that residents receive clean and nutritious food.
The complaint raises an operational question for student housing providers: how consistently are food preparation, storage and serving practices monitored in accommodation where residents may have limited alternatives for daily meals? The report does not establish the cause of the alleged contamination or whether any student fell ill.
The Food Safety Department has taken cognisance of the matter. Assistant Commissioner Sarvesh Kumar said the department was aware of the complaint and that an investigation was under way. The department’s inquiry is expected to determine the facts of the complaint and examine the food-safety concerns raised by the students.
The next steps will depend on the findings of the Food Safety Department’s investigation and the response of the hostel management to the students’ demand for regular checks and improved mess arrangements.
