Kolkata Metro will suspend services between Shahid Khudiram and Maidan on the Blue Line from 9am to 6pm on Sunday, November 1, to allow maintenance work between Netaji and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar stations. Services between Maidan and Dakshineswar will continue during the nine-hour disruption.
The maintenance will be carried out under a traffic and power block, according to a notice issued by Kolkata Metro. As a result, trains will not operate between Shahid Khudiram and Maidan in either direction during the affected period.
Sunday services on the Blue Line normally begin at 9am. Kolkata Metro said the first train from Dakshineswar towards Maidan will leave at 9am, while the first train from Maidan towards Dakshineswar will be available at 9.15am. The Maidan-Dakshineswar section is expected to operate normally in both directions during the maintenance window.
The full Blue Line, which runs between Shahid Khudiram and Dakshineswar, is scheduled to resume after 6pm. Kolkata Metro said trains would then be available across the entire route according to the regular timetable.
The planned block will affect passengers travelling between the southern section of the corridor and central Kolkata during the daytime. Stations from Shahid Khudiram through the affected stretch towards Maidan will not receive train services during the maintenance work, while passengers using the Maidan-Dakshineswar section will continue to have access to trains.
The disruption follows a similar Sunday maintenance block on September 13. On that occasion, work was undertaken between Gitanjali and Kavi Nazrul under a traffic and power block, and services between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Shahid Khudiram were suspended from 9am to 6.30pm. Services on the remaining part of the Blue Line continued normally.
Kolkata Metro has linked both service interruptions to maintenance activity carried out during a planned block. For November 1, the specified work zone is between Netaji and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, with the operational suspension extending from Shahid Khudiram to Maidan. The authority’s stated schedule places the next full-route Blue Line services after 6pm.
