Maruti Suzuki EV Exports Cross 50,000 as Gujarat Hub Expands

Maruti Suzuki India has crossed 50,000 cumulative exports of its e Vitara electric vehicle since global shipments began in August 2025, strengthening the role of its Hansalpur facility in Gujarat as an export hub for India’s electric vehicle manufacturing push.

The company said Europe was the first market to receive the e Vitara and remains its largest export destination. Maruti Suzuki currently ships the electric vehicle to nearly 50 countries, while its wider vehicle portfolio of 16 models reaches nearly 120 countries.

Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and chief executive officer of Maruti Suzuki India, said the company’s EV export journey began when production of the e Vitara started at Hansalpur in August 2025. The facility is the exclusive manufacturing base for Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle.

The export milestone comes as India seeks to expand its role in electric vehicle manufacturing and overseas shipments. Maruti Suzuki said it was India’s number one exporter of electric passenger vehicles in financial year 2025-26 and retained that position during April-September 2026. During the six-month period, the company accounted for nearly 93 per cent of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports, according to Takeuchi.

The figures also underline the concentration of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports in a single manufacturer and production location. The company said Hansalpur accounted for nearly half of its overall overseas shipments in FY2025-26, making the Gujarat facility important not only to its EV programme but also to its wider export network.

Hansalpur has recently expanded its annual production capacity to one million vehicles. Maruti Suzuki said this makes it the first Suzuki manufacturing facility globally to reach that capacity at a single location. The company has invested ₹25,288.7 crore in the facility, which has become a major industrial and logistics node for vehicles made in India for international markets.

The development places the manufacturing facility at the centre of two parallel shifts: the expansion of electric vehicle production and the internationalisation of India’s automotive supply chains. The company described the milestone as evidence of India’s manufacturing capabilities and growing competitiveness in global markets.

Maruti Suzuki also said it has remained India’s number one passenger vehicle exporter for five consecutive years and held more than 50 per cent of the country’s passenger vehicle export share during April-September 2026. Those figures include its broader vehicle portfolio and are separate from the company’s 93 per cent share of electric passenger vehicle exports during the same period.

The company’s next phase will be measured by the continued scaling of e Vitara shipments, the expansion of its international market presence and the utilisation of the enlarged Hansalpur capacity. The facility’s role in Maruti Suzuki’s export network is expected to remain central as the company supplies electric vehicles to markets across Europe and other regions.
