Maruti Suzuki EV Exports Cross 50,000 as Europe Leads Push

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd said its electric vehicle exports crossed 50,000 units between the start of global shipments in August 2025 and October 2026, marking a major early milestone for the company’s international electric vehicle programme.

The company said its electric vehicle exports accounted for nearly 93 per cent of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports between April and September 2026. Maruti Suzuki exports its e VITARA electric SUV to nearly 50 countries, including the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, Japan and Switzerland.

Europe is currently the company’s largest export destination, Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said. The company is targeting sales of the electric SUV in more than 100 countries, making the programme a significant part of Suzuki’s global battery electric vehicle strategy.

Production of the e VITARA began in August 2025 at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat. The plant is the exclusive manufacturing base for Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle, according to the company.

The Hansalpur facility has recently expanded its annual production capacity to 1 million vehicles, becoming the first Suzuki manufacturing facility globally to reach that capacity at a single location. The expansion gives the site a larger role in Maruti Suzuki’s vehicle production and overseas shipment network.

Maruti Suzuki said its cumulative investment in Hansalpur stands at Rs 25,288.7 crore. The Gujarat facility accounted for nearly half of the company’s overall overseas shipments in financial year 2025-26, making it a key export hub for the automaker.

The company’s export milestone comes as Indian vehicle manufacturing facilities increasingly serve markets beyond domestic demand. In Maruti Suzuki’s case, the e VITARA programme links the company’s Gujarat production base with electric vehicle markets across Europe and other international destinations.

The company has not provided a country-wise breakdown of the 50,000 exported vehicles in the supplied statement. It also did not disclose the share of exports going to each destination or provide a revised production target for the e VITARA. The next operational milestone will depend on the company’s continued shipments from Hansalpur to its overseas markets.
