The Gurugram Municipal Corporation demolished two illegal ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants in Daulatabad on Wednesday as part of an enforcement campaign targeting construction-related dust and air pollution. The action takes the number of illegal RMC plants removed by the civic body in the ongoing drive to 10.
The demolition was carried out by a municipal team led by assistant engineer Hariprakash, according to the corporation. The team acted against two RMC plants that were allegedly operating illegally in the Daulatabad area.
RMC plants produce concrete by mixing cement, aggregates, water and other materials for construction projects. Their operations can generate dust if material handling, storage and other processes are not managed in accordance with environmental requirements. The municipal corporation said the action was intended to strengthen compliance with environmental rules and curb pollution linked to the city’s rapid construction activity.
The corporation said the latest demolition formed part of a special enforcement campaign that has been running in Gurugram for the past few days. Municipal teams have also been conducting monitoring and sealing operations against illegal facilities, with officials saying that enforcement would continue across the city.
Municipal commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said operators violating environmental regulations would not be spared. He directed officials to maintain strict monitoring and continue action against illegal activities connected with pollution control, according to the report.
The civic body’s action places construction-linked pollution enforcement at the centre of Gurugram’s ongoing response to deteriorating air quality. The corporation said dust from construction activity and RMC plants had contributed to worsening pollution in the city, and that stronger surveillance and enforcement were required to control it.
The demolition of 10 plants within two days has also sent a warning to other operators running facilities without the required permissions or in violation of applicable rules, the corporation said. The next phase of the campaign will involve continued monitoring and sealing action, with municipal teams expected to remain engaged in identifying and acting against illegal RMC plants.
