Two traffic police personnel from Bavdhan police station cleared construction debris from the road at Pirangut Ghat near Pune after noticing that accumulated material was creating a serious risk for motorists.
Police constables Manoj Gosavi and Pandit Dhulgande reportedly removed soil, gravel and dust that had spilled from a ready-mix concrete vehicle and collected along the stretch between Lavale Phata and Pirangut Ghat. The material made the road slippery and increased the risk of two-wheelers and cars skidding.
The personnel, attached to the traffic division of Bavdhan police station, took brooms and began clearing the road themselves without delay. They also moved the gravel aside and poured water on the affected section, according to Assistant Police Inspector Rakesh Gุมane of the Bavdhan traffic division.
“Traffic personnel themselves took brooms to remove the gravel from the road and prevent accidents caused by vehicles skidding over it. They cleared the road and poured water,” Gუმane said, according to the report published by Sakal – Pune.
The incident took place on Monday, October 26, and was reported from the Pirangut Ghat area. The debris had reportedly remained across part of the route used by local and through traffic, creating a hazard particularly for two-wheelers. The police action was intended to reduce the immediate risk while restoring safer movement on the road.
The episode also points to the road-safety consequences of material spilling from construction and concrete vehicles on busy urban and peri-urban routes. In such situations, the timing of detection and clearance can affect whether a slippery road surface becomes an accident site. The report did not specify whether action was taken against the vehicle responsible for the spill or which agency was responsible for permanent cleaning and inspection of the stretch.
