Telangana’s power utility has placed field staff and emergency response systems on high alert across several districts ahead of the India Meteorological Department’s warning of heavy rain and strong winds from October 27 to 29 due to cyclone impact. The directive is intended to limit power disruptions and speed up restoration work if poles, lines or transformers are damaged.
CMD Karnati Varun Reddy instructed Superintending Engineers in the concerned circles to alert field-level officers and staff in advance and ensure that equipment required for emergency repairs is ready. The alert covers Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mulugu, Bhupalpally, Mancherial, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Warangal, Mahabubabad and Peddapalli districts, along with parts of Karimnagar and Hanamkonda.
The utility said heavy rain and strong winds could lead to electric poles falling, power lines being damaged and transformers being affected. Officials have been directed to keep vehicles, service agencies and electrical equipment available for immediate deployment if interruptions occur.
Control rooms at circle and division levels have been instructed to remain operational throughout the period. Staff availability is to be maintained in shifts, while field teams must continuously communicate information about outages, repair activity and restoration progress to senior officials. Authorities have also been asked to monitor weather conditions and coordinate with field-level personnel in districts expected to face a greater impact.
The instructions place electrical safety alongside restoration speed. Repair teams have been told to begin work only after the electricity supply has been disconnected and the affected line has been confirmed to be safely isolated. Officials have also been asked to warn residents not to approach snapped wires or electrical equipment submerged in water.
Consumers have been advised to avoid touching fallen electric wires during rain or strong winds, stay away from them and inform the Electricity Department immediately. Complaints about power interruptions and other electricity supply issues can be reported through the 1912 toll-free number.
The utility’s stated priority is to maintain uninterrupted supply wherever possible, respond swiftly to failures and restore electricity at the earliest while protecting field personnel and the public. Control rooms and emergency teams are expected to remain active as the weather system affects the identified districts between October 27 and 29.
