KEC Wins ₹2,872 Crore Grid Order to Evacuate Gujarat Renewables

KEC International has secured turnkey orders worth ₹2,872 crore from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) to design, supply and install 765 kV transmission lines linked to the evacuation of 8.5 GW of renewable energy from Gujarat, the company said on Saturday.

The contracts are for high-voltage transmission infrastructure and form part of PGCIL’s grid-related works. KEC International, an RPG Group company, said the latest awards have taken its year-to-date order intake beyond ₹13,500 crore.

The new orders include what KEC described as the largest-ever order for its India Transmission and Distribution business. Vimal Kejriwal, managing director and chief executive officer of KEC International, said the 765 kV projects associated with renewable-energy evacuation from Gujarat had substantially expanded the company’s India T&D order book.

The company said its Transmission and Distribution division contributed ₹9,500 crore to the year-to-date order intake. The latest PGCIL contracts therefore represent a significant addition to the division’s order pipeline and strengthen the company’s position in high-voltage transmission work in India.

The 8.5 GW renewable-energy evacuation component places the contracts within the infrastructure required to move electricity generated in Gujarat to the wider power network. The announcement, however, does not specify the individual project locations, construction schedule, commissioning dates or the transmission corridors covered by the orders.

The order also highlights the grid infrastructure requirements accompanying the expansion of renewable-energy capacity. Generating electricity is only one part of the energy system; transmission projects are required to connect generation assets with the wider network. In this case, PGCIL has awarded the work to KEC International on a turnkey basis, covering design, supply and installation.

KEC’s statement did not disclose the number of transmission lines, the expected execution period or the financial terms beyond the aggregate order value. It also did not provide details of the renewable projects whose power will be evacuated through the planned 765 kV infrastructure.

The company’s next disclosed milestone is the execution of the newly awarded PGCIL contracts. Further details on project locations, timelines and implementation will determine how the orders translate into operational transmission capacity for renewable power from Gujarat.
