Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) reported a 148 per cent year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to ₹1,323 crore for the September quarter of FY27, as higher transmission and energy solutions revenues supported growth across its power infrastructure businesses.
Revenue from operations rose 53 per cent to ₹10,075 crore during the quarter, according to the company. AESL operates across power transmission, electricity distribution, smart metering and energy solutions, making its results significant for the expansion and management of urban electricity networks.
The transmission business recorded a 52 per cent year-on-year rise in revenue to ₹3,599 crore. Revenue from distribution increased two per cent to ₹3,181 crore, while the smart meter business more than doubled its revenue to ₹384 crore. The energy solutions platform reported revenue of ₹2,197 crore, nearly 11 times the year-ago level.
The reported profit also received a significant boost from a tax write-back of ₹1,531 crore during the quarter. This one-time accounting benefit formed an important part of the increase in net profit and distinguishes the reported earnings growth from the performance of the company’s underlying operating businesses.
AESL’s distribution operations serve consumers in Mumbai and Mundra. The company said its Mumbai distribution business recorded an 11 per cent increase in units sold during the quarter. Distribution performance is closely linked to the demand profile of urban consumers, including households, commercial establishments and industrial users.
The company’s transmission network stood at 29,739 circuit kilometres at the end of the September quarter, with average system availability of 99.8 per cent. Transmission availability is a key operating measure because it indicates the proportion of time that network assets remain available to carry electricity.
AESL Chief Executive Officer Kandarp Patel said the company had expanded its transmission project pipeline to around ₹87,000 crore after winning the Vizag and Satara assets. He said the company was positioned to convert the pipeline into long-term stakeholder value. The company estimated the near-term transmission tendering opportunity at ₹1.4 lakh crore.
Smart metering was another area of expansion. AESL said its cumulative installations reached nearly 15 million, with 14.8 million meters installed by the end of the first half of FY27. Its smart metering order book stood at 24.6 million meters, representing a potential revenue opportunity of ₹29,519 crore.
Smart meters are being deployed as part of the broader shift towards digitally monitored electricity distribution. They can support more frequent consumption measurement and help utilities manage billing and network information, although the company’s results announcement did not provide details on installation schedules, consumer outcomes or project-level implementation across individual cities.
AESL also said its 2.5 GW round-the-clock power supply contract with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd had strengthened its energy supply portfolio. The company has renamed its erstwhile trading segment as the Energy Solutions Platform, reflecting its expanded focus on energy solutions and the integration of related offerings.
The company’s latest figures therefore combine operating growth in transmission, distribution and metering with the impact of the tax write-back on reported profit. AESL’s next milestones will include execution of its transmission project pipeline, delivery against its smart metering order book and the operational performance of its Mumbai distribution business.
