Bengaluru Postal Services Disrupted Until October 25 During Software Upgrade

Bengaluru postal services for insurance customers will remain disrupted from October 22 to 25 as the Bengaluru General Post Office replaces its existing software with a new Insurance Management Solution, according to a notice issued by the chief postmaster and reported by Prajavani.

The temporary disruption affects customers using Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) services. During the transition period, several services will be unavailable at designated sub-post offices under the Bengaluru General Post Office’s jurisdiction.

The affected services include new policy processing, premium collection and loan repayment, among other insurance-related transactions. The notice asked customers to cooperate until the new system is introduced.

The affected sub-post offices are located in and around several Bengaluru neighbourhoods and public institutions. They include Arabic College, Banaswadi, the CMM Court Complex, CMP School, Dr Ambedkar Beedi, Shivaram Karanth Nagar, the High Court, Fraser Town, HKP Road, Horamavu, Jal Vayu Vihar, Kalyan Nagar, Kothanur, Legislators’ Home, Lingarajapuram, Maruthi Seva Nagar, Museum Road, Raj Bhavan, Shivanshetty Garden, St Thomas Town, Vasanth Nagar and Vidhana Soudha.

The Bengaluru General Post Office is shifting from the existing ‘Maccamish’ software to the Insurance Management Solution to provide services to PLI and RPLI policyholders through the new platform. The new software-based services are scheduled to begin on October 26.

The disruption illustrates how a software transition in a public-facing network can temporarily affect routine transactions across multiple service points. Unlike a closure limited to the central post office, the notice covers sub-post offices spread across different parts of the city, requiring customers to account for the service window before visiting.

The notice does not indicate that all postal operations in Bengaluru will stop. The stated interruption relates to PLI and RPLI services, including policy issuance, premium payments and loan repayments, at the listed offices during the transition period. Customers seeking these services have been asked to cooperate until the new system becomes operational on October 26.
