Hyderabad Metro Common Pass Set to End Bus-Train Ticket Barriers

Hyderabad Metro and the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) will launch a common travel pass on October 2, 2026, in a move intended to make journeys across the city’s rail and bus networks more seamless for commuters.

The pass will be launched by the Telangana government in collaboration with Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd and TGSRTC. The programme will be held at Praja Bhavan in Hyderabad, with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka scheduled to attend as the chief guest.

The initiative follows directions issued nearly a month ago by Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju to introduce a joint travel pass for Hyderabad Metro and the Corporation’s bus services at the earliest. Officials were asked to make arrangements for issuing passes that would allow commuters to travel across the two public transport modes.

The launch brings together the city’s principal organised public transport services under a single travel-pass initiative. Hyderabad Metro provides the city’s rapid-transit network, while TGSRTC operates bus services across Telangana. The stated objective is to enable seamless travel between the two systems rather than requiring passengers to manage separate travel arrangements for each mode.

The announcement is significant for commuters whose journeys involve both buses and the Metro. A passenger may need to use a bus to reach a Metro station and another bus service after completing the rail portion of a trip. A common pass is intended to simplify that interchange, although the information released so far does not specify whether it will be available as a daily, periodic or stored-value product.

The authorities have also not disclosed the pass price, fare discounts, validity period, refund rules, issuing channels or the technical mechanism through which Metro and bus journeys will be linked. These operational details will determine how widely the pass is used and how easily passengers can access it.

The decision follows an administrative push to coordinate the two transport systems. The Chief Secretary’s directions placed the responsibility for implementation on the government, Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd and TGSRTC, requiring the agencies to make arrangements for issuing the passes. The October 2 programme is expected to formally mark the start of the joint offering.

For Hyderabad, the initiative represents a move towards closer coordination between bus-based and rail-based public transport. Its immediate public purpose is to reduce friction when passengers shift between modes. The launch will also provide the first official details on how the pass is structured and how commuters can obtain and use it.

The common travel pass will be launched at Praja Bhavan on October 2 by the State government in collaboration with Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd and TGSRTC. Further details on pricing, validity, eligibility and the process for issuing the pass are expected to be provided at the programme.
