Central Railway will operate a five-hour mega block on the Panvel–Vashi Harbour line and the CSMT–Vikhroli slow line on Sunday, 4 October, affecting local train services for commuters travelling between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The block has been scheduled for engineering and maintenance work.
The Panvel–Vashi up and down Harbour line will remain under the block from 11.05 am to 4.05 pm. During this period, Harbour line services from Panvel towards CSMT scheduled between 10.33 am and 3.49 pm will be cancelled.
Services from CSMT towards Belapur and Panvel scheduled between 9.45 am and 3.12 pm will also remain cancelled. These cancellations are expected to affect passengers travelling from Navi Mumbai to South Mumbai as well as those returning towards Belapur and Panvel during the afternoon period.
The block will also affect the Trans-Harbour route. Panvel–Thane services scheduled between 11.02 am and 3.53 pm, and Thane–Panvel services scheduled between 10.01 am and 3.20 pm, will be cancelled.
However, Trans-Harbour services between Thane and Vashi or Nerul will continue during the block period. Central Railway will also operate special local services between CSMT in Mumbai and Vashi to reduce inconvenience for passengers.
The railway has not indicated that all services across the network will be suspended. Local trains on the Port route will continue to operate regularly, according to the report. Passengers using the affected Harbour and Trans-Harbour sections will need to account for the block timings and possible changes in their journey plans.
The scheduled work reflects the operational trade-off involved in maintaining a heavily used suburban railway network. Engineering and maintenance blocks temporarily reduce capacity but allow railway authorities to carry out work on tracks and related systems without regular peak-period traffic operating over the affected section.
For Navi Mumbai commuters, the impact will be concentrated on the Panvel–Vashi Harbour section and Panvel–Thane Trans-Harbour services. The continued Thane–Vashi/Nerul services, CSMT–Vashi special locals and regular Port route operations will provide limited alternatives during the five-hour block.
The affected cancellations will begin before the formal 11.05 am start of the Panvel–Vashi block and continue through the afternoon, as services are withdrawn to accommodate the maintenance window. Central Railway’s special services and the routes that remain operational will determine how passengers can adjust their journeys on Sunday.
