Commercial LPG Price Rises ₹70 in Kolkata Before Durga Puja

The commercial LPG price in Kolkata will rise by ₹70 from 1 October, taking the price of a 19-kilogram cylinder to ₹2,954 ahead of Durga Puja. The price of a 14.2-kilogram domestic LPG cylinder will remain unchanged at ₹968.

The revised commercial rate was released on Wednesday night for October, according to a report by Anandabazar – West Bengal. The increase will affect restaurants, hotels, catering businesses and other food-related enterprises that use commercial cylinders for cooking.

The timing places the increase ahead of the festive period, when food-service businesses typically operate amid heightened demand. The source report said the latest revision could increase operating costs across these businesses, although it did not provide details of any planned changes to menu prices or service charges.

Commercial LPG prices in Kolkata have moved sharply during the past six months. In April, a 19-kilogram cylinder was priced at ₹2,208, after rising by ₹219.50 from March. The price then increased by ₹994 in May to ₹3,202 and rose by a further ₹53.50 in June to ₹3,255.50.

The trend reversed during the following two months. The price fell by ₹174 in July to ₹3,081.50 and by another ₹209 in August to ₹2,872.50. The total reduction over those two months was ₹383. In September, the price increased by ₹11.50 to ₹2,884. The October increase therefore interrupts the decline recorded in July and August.

Domestic LPG prices have followed a more stable pattern. The 14.2-kilogram household cylinder was priced at ₹939 in April and May before increasing by ₹29 in June to ₹968. It remained at ₹968 in July, August and September, and will continue at the same price in October.

The different movement in commercial and domestic cylinder prices means that the immediate increase is concentrated on businesses rather than household consumers. The revised commercial rate will apply from 1 October, when the new monthly pricing takes effect.
